Your Future Is In God’s Hands

d4.11

Sometimes the future can feel scary. Especially when life drastically changes in an instant and suddenly it doesn’t look the same as it once did.

But God doesn’t want us to live in the fear of the unknown. Instead, He wants us to live in confidence and joy by believing He not only knows our future but will be the Provider of all our future needs, whatever they may be.

We all have different fears about the future and different needs to even be met in the present. In fact, I’m sure you have plenty of fears and needs weighing on your heart and mind right this very minute.

Yet whether our needs are for financial provision, emotional relief, stress reduction, a change of circumstances, the ability to get over a failed relationship or marriage, achieving success of our dreams or goals, or even physical healing – God has the power and the desire to provide for those needs in exactly the way that is best. His way may not always be our way, but it will always be the best way.

If your heart is heavy with worry and fear,  about all the unknowns that the future might hold, how might your heart lighten today if you choose to focus on Who holds your future instead of what the future holds?  How might your day be happier if you intentionally choose to trust God instead of worrying?

Lately I’ve been trying to do that more, and friend, I know it’s not easy. But the more I accept that it’s my job to trust God with my future and His job to take care of it – not the other way around – the unknowns of the future seem just a little less scary.

Committing to trust God is a small act of obedience that opens our spiritual ears to hear His voice, and hearing from God will always change our heart.

If you could use some more encouragement about this topic today, I hope you’ll take a moment to read my Encouragement for Today devotion, where I share about a quiet encounter I had with God which reassured me He loves us and knows our needs, and that He is our provider and always desires to take care of His own.

In reading your Proverbs 31 post today, the words of an old song written in 1950 came to mind. I heard it many times when my Dad’s quartet sang it in local churches. The piece is still under copyright so you would need permission to use it in publication but here is the first verse and chorus:

    I Don’t Know About Tomorrow

    “I don’t know about tomorrow.
I just live from day to day.
I don’t borrow from its sunshine
For its skies may turn to gray.
    I don’t worry o’er the future
For I know what Jesus said,
And today I’ll walk beside Him
For He knows what lies ahead.

    Many things about tomorrow
    I don’t seem to understand.
But I know who holds tomorrow
And I know who holds my hand.”
