Whether you are visiting my blog for the first time today from the Proverbs 31 devotion, or you are a regular visitor or subscriber – I imagine we all have at least one thing in common – stress!
A fairly recent survey conducted by the APA stated that 75% of people said they were stressed to the max to the point where they knew their health was being affected. So not only do the majority of us know that we’re stressed, but the majority of us are ignoring the damages that stress is taking on our hearts, minds, bodies and souls. Why? Because most people are unaware of how to find stress relief that actually changes their life.
Several years ago, I was frustrated with myself, my life, and to be perfectly honest, with God. Why wasn’t He rescuing me from my suffering? Why wasn’t He making my situations better? Why was He letting other people treat me unkindly? Why didn’t He fix my problems? In fact, if He really loved me like His Word said, why was He allowing me to be stressed to the max?
The day I asked God those honest questions, was the day God helped me realize that my stress wasn’t His fault at all – it was my own.
I had been so consumed with being stressed, frazzled, frustrated, bitter, hopeless and focused on my circumstances – that I had forgotten to focus on God. In fact, I had forgotten all about God’s promise found in Philippians 4:7 which says “Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
Even though His peace seemed out of reach, unrealistic, and possibly unfathomable in light of my current adversities and struggles, I discovered the key for tapping into His RX for peace in verse 6.
Philippians 4:6 “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.”
Despite what I was facing each day, I needed to take a daily dose of less worry, intentional prayers, and thankfulness. When I followed God’s RX instructions, I found the Peace I had been so desperate for. It didn’t happen overnight, but it did happen. And it can happen for you too.
If you commit to taking God’s RX for stress every day, you will find yourself peace-full.
