“Be proud of who you see in the mirror, not because of who you are, but because of Whose you are.”
The quote above was pulled from my Proverbs 31 Devotion today, Remember Whose You Are, and it’s a quote near and dear to my heart. I spent a lot of years allowing the weight of self condemnation to crush my spirit and make me feel unworthy, even though on the outside, I always wore a smile on my face. Just maybe you can relate.
I meet so many women in my travels to speak at women’s conferences who still carry that weight, and it truly breaks my heart. Although there are those days when I have self defeating thoughts, for the most part, I now live in the freedom and peace in my heart that Jesus died to provide.
Life isn’t always peaceful now, don’t get me wrong. And I don’t walk around saying “yay me” and “life is great” all the time. Sometimes, I still look in the mirror and wish I could wave a magic wand and change all the things about myself or my life that I don’t like. Yet, whether I ever change or not, whether my circumstances change or not, and despite how many times I might fail, I know God loves me unconditionally and has a purpose and plan for my life and for the experiences I’ve been through. Not because I’m anyone special, but simply because I’m His. And so are YOU!
It is my heart’s desire to help other women discover that freeing freedom and peace that God offers, and to catch a glimpse of the plan God might have for their life, based on the trials of the past. Not because of anything I could ever say or do or write here on my blog, but because I know what God can do in a heart that opens up to His love, accepts His forgiveness, and slowly tries to see a new more positive reflection of the woman looking back at her in the mirror.
