Have You Ever Wanted to Write Your Story?

Pessimistic thinking — whether about our life, our self-worth or our abilities — will always stand in the way of following God’s call and may prevent us from enjoying sweet blessings He wants us to enjoy. Fortunately, we are in control of our thoughts – it’s just a matter of intentionally taking control and not letting negative thoughts boss us around.

today’s Proverbs 31 devotion, When Negative Thinking Stands In The Way of Following God’s Call, I shared about a time I missed out on an exciting adventure because my negative thoughts derailed my best intentions. That experience prompted me to think about what other blessings I’ve missed out on in life simply because I let my fears, doubts and insecurities stand in the way of following God’s call.

There are most certainly a lot of times when I’ve disobeyed God even though I sensed He was calling me to move. Yet there are also times when I have obeyed His nudges to my heart and been abundantly blessed as a result. If you are struggling today with having the courage, confidence and faith to get out of your comfort zone and do something new God has been whispering to your spirit, then I hope you’ll hop over to the Proverbs 31 website and read my devotion for encouragement.

Romans 12:2 assures us when we invite God to transform our minds and change how we think, He’ll do exactly that: “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

When our thoughts are positive, our hearts will be too, and obedience will flow more naturally.

One of the things God laid on my heart many, many years ago was to write. Not just write anything, but write about the story God had been authoring in my life.  Yet I didn’t see myself as a writer. I didn’t think I was qualified to be a writer, much less know how to be one. I wanted to share what God had been doing in my life but I wasn’t sure where to start and struggled with fear and insecurities.

How I wish I had had the training available through Proverbs 31 Ministries that is available to aspiring writers today!

As the COMPEL Training Manager at Proverbs 31 Ministries, I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce my blog readers to COMPEL Training in case you aren’t aware of this incredible division of our ministry. COMPEL exists to help encourage women (and men!) to pursue their calling to write, equip and train them to become better writers, and help them pursue their desire to be published in whatever format they are striving for.

I read a statistic once that said 90% of people think they have a book inside of them and want to write about their life or experiences. Why? Because we all have a story to tell, and if God has helped us find victory in a difficult situation or overcome great adversity, we long to share it with others and help them experience victory too. In fact for that very reason, we’ve been running a Storytelling series at COMPEL Training all summer long to teach our COMPEL members how to get their story on paper and craft it in a powerful way. Plus there are countless monthly teachings (in our archives and also 4 new teachings per month) on the art and craft of writing and inside insights and advice from publishing experts.

Friend, if you’ve ever felt a little tug on your heart to write in any way, you might want to consider joining COMPEL Training! Click HERE for more information.

COMPEL registration is only open four times per year and is currently open July 18-25th (and there are some awesome freebies you’ll get just for registering).  If you’re interested don’t delay in signing up!

For years there has been a whisper in my heart to write but my usual thought is, “but, I’m not a writer….”. I can relate to everything you described in your blog. Thank you for sharing and inspiring others to step out when we are hesitant.

I’m afraid of my own shadow. I know God has nudged me several times but I have let fear take over every time. I ask for help but then I take it back because I’m scared.im in a season right now where I need to step out but fear has me locked behind the door. I need faith to unlock the door and step out.

Going into a meeting in a couple of hours that now has some self doubts creeping in. I’m on a board for the first time with this group. My intent has been to be a positive difference. I decided that even before the new president said her theme for the year was to Choose Joy. “When our thoughts are positive, our hearts will be too, and obedience will flow more naturally. ” These words are exactly what I needed before going to this meeting. Thank you!

I always know that negative thinking will not help anyone, for one to progress you seriously need to believe that it is possible. Now and again My challenge was and still is, to differentiate between pessmistic or negative thoughts versus REALITY.

I am aware that our God is capable, can do things that are not possible in our shortsightedness and also that there is nothing complicated enough for our God. I know you definately here a BUT, which is why I am praying for mind transformation what we called INKONZO YASENGQONDWENI in Xhosa

Too often my mind dictates the reasonable approach to any decision rather than listening to the “still, small voice” of the Lord’s Spirit to mine. I find it has derailed my life in many ways, stifling God’s call to total surrender to His guidance. Despite the disasters I’ve accumulated from these “mistakes, I continue to press on to God’s perfect way to find the security and peace that comes from reliance on the Lord instead of on my negative thoughts. Thank you for your words of encouragement.
