Meet Kathy Dache

photo[1]Kathy lives in Fairfax, Virginia and has devoted the past thirty years to serving in children’s ministry, young adult ministry, pregnant woman’s ministry and ministering to wayward teens. She thrives on having a house full of young people and believes God has multiplied the two babies she gave up to adoption with the opportunity to minister to hundreds of kids and teens.

My interview with Kathy

Kathy, I love how God first connected us – through your precious Godly daughter Lexie who I met while she was serving as a summer intern for Proverbs 31. But after hearing about my new book from her,  what made you want to actually contribute your story to YLSC?

Kathy: When my daughter asked me to contribute my story, I told her that it was private. But she said I would be selfish not to share it.

Leave it to our kids to force us to have confidence! I love the photo of you here that shows you and your other daughter Natalie – the one who was born on the exact birth date of one of the daughters you gave up for adoption. God’s timing is always so amazing, and I know was a pivotal day in your faith journey as God proved that His timing and plans are perfect.

Your story in Your Life Still Counts is God driven and very inspiring, so thank you for sharing it with us! Since you stepped out in obedience with great courage to share your story in YLSC, how has God opened doors for you to do ministry or touch other’s hearts?

Kathy: I have been sharing my story in pieces when the opportunity arises. I don’t want to share something that was emotional for me simply to have the listener tell me their difficult experience. I am learning that people are often self focused because of what they’ve been through, so if I focus on THEM, they are always ‘touched’. My personal story is not what drives my actions to glorify God. I have also promoted this book to several people who are not believers in Jesus Christ and they have received it only because my story is in it. God may possibly use this book to reach those that I give it to. I will continue to pass it out since I can say that my story is in it.

Amen to that Kathy. Praying that God uses the book to reach the hearts of many unbelievers. Do you have a recent example of how God might have used your story to impact someone’s heart or life?

Kathy: I reached out to the son of the couple who ran the home for unwed mothers that I lived in almost 30 years ago. I thanked him for the sacrifices that he and his family had made in housing all of us girls and told him that countless babies had been saved because of the kindness and generosity of his family. This young man has gone through a divorce, which I am sure is difficult, and I wanted him to know that he has contributed in a significant way to the lives of many.

What new thing have you been working on lately?

Kathy: I teach a class of middle school homeschoolers. I have written out the story of Revelation, which we are studying, in a story form told from the perspective of a kid their age living through the times described in the book and have been reading the chapters to the class each week. It has captured their attention and brought the book to life, (so to speak).

That’s awesome! I wouldn’t mind reading that story myself. How might people pray for you at this time of your life?

Kathy: I am naturally a hermit. That is my comfort zone. I guess my prayer would be that I would take my eyes off of myself and look outside to all of the people that God loves, and care about them as He does.

That’s a prayer we can all pray for ourselves as well. Thank you Kathy!

I really enjoyed this interview! It’s great to get to know but Kathy and you. I love Kathy’s prayer request. As an introvert, I find it easy to stay at home. God calls us to stand shoulder to shoulder helping each other further His kingdom and while difficult, it is so worth it. Kathy sets a great example. Thank you for this post!
