Verses for Christmas Eve & a Holiday Giveaway

In today’s Proverbs 31 devotion, I talked about how much I enjoy hot cocoa on a cold winter’s day and how it always reminds  me to pause and remember God’s goodness. I have to admit though, that a steaming French Vanilla latte with piles of whip cream on top makes me feel all warm inside too. Smiles.

Yet no matter what I’m drinking, or eating, or enjoying, I never want to forget to be thankful for Jesus, especially on Christmas Eve when He should be the focus of every breath I take.  Since you might be pulled in a lot of directions today, I simply want to share the verses below from today’s devotion for you to tuck into your heart as we officially celebrate the gift of God’s Son.

cocoaAnd even after all the decorations have been put away, we will still want to take time to focus on all that God has done for us especially as we embark on a brand new year. So today I’m giving away a little warmth for your heart to help you snuggle with God as you sip some warm cocoa in the cold month of January.

To enter to win, leave a comment stating which one of the below verses speaks most to your heart today and why.

Romans 15:13 has been one of my memory verses this year. May we always be filled with HOPE, JOY, and PEACE as we praise our God of HOPE in the sometimes often hopeLESS world. Merry Christmas, Tracie.

1 Peter 3:3-4 is a great reminder for me today. I have been struggling with not being able to lose the baby weight after having my 4th baby a few months ago. Being overweight affects my attitude, and I find myself NOT having a gentle spirit towards my kids. So, I will meditate on this verse and know that the people who love me, love me for who I am, not how much I weigh, and I will focus on being a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth to God!

  3. Sandra on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 8:11 am

I think about how excited we get when we have a new grandbaby on the way (we have five now) and how we can’t wait to see the expected child. I cannot imagine how the wise men felt when they found Christ as a baby and knew that He had been born – our King and Savior. Wow! How exciting! Merry Christmas!

Romans 15:13 has become a favorite verse of mine. Without Jesus we live in a hopeless world. I am so thankful the Holy Spirit has given us the power to be filled with joy and hope!

  5. Debra on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 8:15 am

Romans 15:13 is the one that speaks to me ,not just today but often. My son died 15 years ago & he was born on Christmas Day. It is just through God’s hope, & Peace that I can find Joy ,even in grief.

Rom 15:13 “I am always so encouraged that God doesn’t leave us alone. The Holy Spirit brings us comfort and pours out God’s love into our hearts, and gives us hope no matter the circumstances! Merry Christmas!”

John 10:10b “… I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (NIV) I know that the Lord has some awesome plans for my life and I cling to His promise that it is going to be Full! There is no doubt that He is directing my steps and wants me to enjoy every day to the full and that is what I try to do. Thanks for your ministry and have a very blessed Christmas!

  8. Monique on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 8:29 am

I am indeed thankful to embrace the beauty of this day with Romans 15:13. To be reminded to trust and place my hope in the Living God amidst the chaos of the season serves to refocus my attention on Christ. This year has been most challenging, I lost my house, I’m separated from my husband and struggle with depression, but God is so faithful to remind me of His unfailing love and the joy that comes from a life centered on Him.

  9. Sandra on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 8:36 am

Matthew 2:10 reminds me that you cannot be in the presence of the King without falling down in worship. I am praying that all will truly experience Him this Christmas season.

    – Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (NIV) This verse really speaks to me. This has been a difficult year for our family for many reasons. It’s been hard to be happy this Christmas season. This verse is my prayer. I pray God will fill my family’s hearts with His peace and His joy. Without Him we would have no hope. Despite this being a difficult year, im choosing to focus on the joy of the season: the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ!! I’m so thankful He meets us right where we are.

This will be my first Christmas without my mother. She went home to be with the Lord in September and needless to say the holidays have been challenging for me. Yet Romans 15:13 reminds me of the HOPE & JOY that I can rely on to get me through this season.

-Matthew 2:10-11 “When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.” (NIV)
With 4 kids this time of year gets overwhelming fast. This is a verse I will keep with me all day to remember the true meaning of Christmas. To be overjoyed with God’s gift to me Jesus.

1 Peter 3:3-4 hits me because I am surrounded by women who always get all dolled up with their fancy clothed, shies and have all the matching accessories and I am a “plain jane” who sometimes feels a little out of the group.

Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Hope coming from trusting in God to be who he says he is and to do what he says he will do is such a powerful message. Through busy times, good times, hard times and the ordinary times God is always there ready to fill us with his love!

  15. Tammy on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 8:51 am

Well, let’s just say “gentle and quiet” are not words often used to describe me. I try and try to practice the TNK before I speak, ( is it True, Necessary, and Kind). And I have come to realize with God’s help this has to start in my heart and spirit first. Regardless of how much I go to the gym, eat right and wear clothing that flatters, nothing will reflect God more than true love , grace and kindness. So, each day I pray God will flood my heart with His Spirit and keep my mind focused on Him and listen quietly to His call on my life and my day. So, very hard and often I have to pray it many times during the day, but He is always there to calm and quiet my anxious heart. Praise the Lord for that quiet manager so many years ago!

Romans 15:13~ I have a terrible issue with trust. Knowing that I can place my trust in my Savior is HUGE for me and a continuous growing pain! Someday I will trust FULLY and be whole!

  17. Rosemary Hall on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 8:53 am

Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (NIV). This is the most wonderful time of the year but also the most difficult so I am trusting in the Lord God to fill up the sorrowful places in my heart. I focus on the joy and peace that is freely given with no strings.

  18. Tracie Parker on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 8:55 am

The ornament verse spoke to me, 1Peter 3:3-4. Sometimes I get so down on how I look outwardly that I forget that God loves what is on the inside. Thank you for a wonderful message this Christmas Eve!

  19. Dawn Deare on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 8:56 am

Romans 15:13. We are having family issues and this verse is such a reminder that my hope is in HIM not in our situation and that I need to trust HIM with the situation and not see it as hopeless.

  20. Amber M. on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 8:58 am

wow what a tough choice! i can think of ways each one of them touches me directly. but, if i have to say, one stands out that really touches me today and for most of this year. Romans 15:13, I am generally a happy person but with busyness and stress i do feel robbed of joy and peace and even sometimes find myself lacking in trust. I ‘know” i don’t want to be that way and shouldn’t but it takes a verse like this to grab my attention and remember that i need to direct my thoughts, feelings and emotions away from such worldly concern and worry and pour myself back into focusing on God and whats really important to him and what i truly value in my life and walk and set my mind a heart on those things that please my Savior. Its time to remember the meaning of the season to focus on that and not the other busyness.

  21. Rebecca Shiplett on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 9:04 am

Matthew 1:18. It reminds me that He has plans for me and my life that are many times unknown to me. When things happen that aren’t going according to “my plans”, I need to be reminded that His plan is best. Oh, to be more like Mary, obedient and quietly accepting his plan.
Wishing you a blessed, calm Christmas, filled with many hot cocoa moments.

1 Peter 3:3-4. I have two daughters and the oldest is 10. I know as she gets older she will look at the world and fashion trends to determine how she should dress, fix her hair, etc. I will be talking with her about this verse and the choices that she will make.
    Merry Christmas!

I desperately needed this devotion today. My mind and heart are upset and the depression is trying to push in & I sometimes wonder and fret about my marriage and wonder if anything will change for the better during 2014 BUT all the verses you wrote helped me. Romans 15:13 especially spoke to me b/c I have a hope and I can have joy b/c my God has given it to me. Through HIS son Jesus I can trust it’s all going to be OK -if not here on earth then all will be fulfilled in Heaven. I must trust in my Father-the God of hope! Blessings on you and all at P31 this Christmas!

    – Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (NIV)

I need to be reminded of this so often, that I need to HOPE and TRUST in Him and this verse is a good reminder for me.

  25. Polly Schneider on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 9:17 am

Romans 15:13. The God of hope. Yes, God gives me hope. We can have joy and peace as we trust in Him. We can even overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Such a great verse.

  26. Christina Burrell on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 9:17 am

Romans 15:13 because we are in need of joy and peace and are clinging to the hope we have in Christ.

  27. Tammy on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 9:17 am

    – 1 Peter 3:3-4 “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.”(NIV 1984) speaks to me. Society speaks such volumes about the outward but nothing about the true inner self.

  29. Paige on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 9:24 am

1 Peter 3:3-4 I have two daughters, the older is 17 & the younger is 4. I am so thankful & amazed by my 17 yr old’s faith & walk with Jesus. She is truly one of those people who is as beautiful inside as out & Jesus shows in everything that she does. Not that it hasn’t been a struggle at times with her & the pull off this world, but I can already see the world trying so very desperately to win my 4 yr old. It is already such a struggle & I pray that I will live out these verses as well as teach them to her.
    Merry Christmas!

  30. Lee Roberts on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 9:25 am

In 1 Peter 3:3-4 I find that all I need is Jesus in my heart to be a beautiful person to Him. I need to focus on what is in my heart and make sure that I adorn myself with good things inside not the outside. I have always felt that I was not beautiful enough or good enough for others. But God looks at my heart and as long as my heart is pure and focused on Him I am a very beautiful person. That is the true beauty that lasts for ever. I am so glad that Jesus takes me as I am and I don’t have to be some dolled up version of me that is not real. He loves me for me and wants me to do the same for Him. Thank you God for your most perfect love and acceptance of who I am in my heart.

Romans 15 – it’s a great reminder to continually trust in Him and His ways.

  32. Vickie Roge on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 9:31 am

At a time when my heart and life is not at peace, Romans 15:13 reminds me that my God, is the God of hope and that as I trust Him, He WILL fill me with ALL joy and peace so that I may overflow with hope. I am now reminded that when I overflow, I share His hope with others.
    Thank you Tracie,

  33. Jennifer on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 9:32 am

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him” I need this verse this holiday season. I struggle to find joy and peace. Its family drama, bickering and dread when it come to the holiday get together. We put so much “perfection” into food and gifts for people we will not see for the next 360 days that I lose focus of what Christmas is really about.

  34. Janie Moore on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 9:33 am

    – 1 Peter 3:3-4 “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.”(NIV 1984)

This year I have been trying to focus more on my inner self and not worry about what people think about my outside appearance. What a struggle! With the world so focused on beauty, fancy clothing and jewelry many have commented on my commitment to “dress down”. What a better opening for me though to talk about the Lord and what it is He wants from us. This year my inner spirit has grown tremendously and I have learned how to share God with others in this new found way!

Romans 15:13. Today as I was reading it dawned on me that it is Gods peace that is most important. This year has been so busy and stressful. The last 2 weeks I have been in what I call a functioning depression. I still am able to get most things done but I am in a state of almost tears. Instead of worring about everything I need to get done I need to stop and think about the joy God gig e me and has placed in my heart. Thank you for the reminder.

    • Nancy Silvers on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 10:41 am

Holding you up in prayer Carol–I know what you are going through-I’m going through chronic illness and it’s a daily battle to not give in to the depression I feel coming on. Praying that God gives you the peace that surpasses all understanding and reminding myself of it too as I pray for you. Merry Christmas!!

  36. Melissa on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 9:42 am

Romans 15:13 is the verse that speaks to me today. My husband and I will be need to find another place to live in 2014. We need a less expensive monthly payment. We know that God will provide a wonderful home for us, as He always has provided. Yet, worry still sneaks into our minds. So, today, we are reminded to place our hope and trust in God alone and He will once again provide. Merry Christmas! 🙂

  37. Jennifer Jones on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 9:43 am

I love Romans 15:13 because we all desire to be filled with joy and peace, but John 10:10b speaks so loudly to my spirit this Christmas Eve. I’m so thankful God came as a tiny baby so that we would have life to the full!! Now that is a precious gift!!!

  38. Pamela on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 9:43 am

1 Peter, most definitely. Chrstmas was a time of family meltdown and destruction in my family. I always yearned for the perceived joy of Christmas but was always too anxious and fearful of what the next family trauma would be to get it. It takes pursuing a quiet spirit. Like this year. Time and back issues mean decorating has not been done and gifts were a photo finish. But I am pursuing the joy if Jedus’ birthday and the fact that I DID finish! Love the COCOA analogy!

  39. Tracy Nana on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 9:46 am

John 10:10b …I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. NIV. This verse I repeat over and over to our GriefShare groups, those who have loved who have died. It shows Devil kills and God heals and brings life. When I lost my brother to cancer 4 1/2 years ago to a 5 year battle with a rare cancer at 49 years old and a family behind. I wasn’t sure I’d be able to come out from under that deep, dark pit of pain.

Through this verse God has not only pleased me but each person coming to GriefShare for 13 weeks and us leading 3 times a year He blesses them too. This last Session I lead by myself for the first time but I was not by myself, Jesus walked through it with me and some times carrying me when my chronic health problems made worse from stress. I had one younger widow come in not believing in God and at our last Session on Heaven, she gave her life to Christ and her young daughter did to. This is life to the fullest “living in His fullest”.

  40. Margaret Porth on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 9:47 am

Trusting Him and in Him is my constant goal, that is why I chose the verse from Romans. I constantly struggle with believing He will work out all things for me, for my good. I have seen Him work mightily in my life the last few years. My desire is to overflow with hope.

  41. Kate on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 9:48 am

1 Peter 3:3-4 has always been intriguing to me. I would sometimes feel convicted about taking time to fix my hair and makeup, adjust my clothes just so, and which jewelery I should wear. Several other verses in the Bible tell us that we should be pleasing to our husbands, so which is it? But after much prayer and thought on this verse, I believe that what God really wants from us is to simply attract more attention from our behavior than our appearance. Our calm, gentle, happy, joyful behavior should radiate beyond designer jeans and any jewel we wear. 1 Peter 3:3-4 tells us that God does not look at the things we wear, He looks at our behavior, and deeper into our hearts. So don’t distract others with fanciful adornments, let your character and spirit be the beauty that radiates.

  42. Kelly Blackwell on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 9:59 am

When I get mired down in my own pain and my own worries, I am glad to have the Lord’s word to remind me of His faithfulness and most importantly His plan. His plan is not that I should travel through this life morose and heartbroken or comparing myself to others. This verse speaks this to me in a special way.
    – John 10:10b “… I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (NIV)

Thank you Tracie both for today’s post and the devotional you shared at Proverbs 31.

God bless you and Merry Christmas!

Trusting in Him is easy most of the time, other times it is very hard to do. I am touched by Romans 15:13 this morning. After having a husband (of 15 years) leave in March of 2012 out of the blue with no warning or indication, just up and leave, with our precious son, it is hard to have complete trust and wonder why things happen. I recently filed for divorce, one of the hardest things I have ever had to do, I am trying to put all of my trust in Jesus our Lord and Savior. He has been with me and carried me the entire way for two years now. This time of year is very difficult to get thru, it is very lonely, but I am so thankful I have HIM and my precious son to carry me thru. Thank you for all your post, they are so inspirational and touching to me! Merry Christmas to all, and Thank you Jesus!

1 Peter 3:3-4. Beauty that is unfading is precious. Gentleness is much needed in our lives. I have found myself reading these verses many times.

  45. Shelley on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 10:06 am

Definitely, Romans 15:13…Having hope in God is the only anchor in the ‘stormy’ life we sometimes live. The peace we get from trusting in Him is the only peace that’s lasting in this world.

  46. Shannon on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 10:06 am

Romans 15:13 – I seek joy and peace that comes from Him, especially when I’m tired and my self-induced “to do” list weighs me down. Thank you for the Christmas COCOA, I needed it.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13 (NIV)

I tend to get caught up in the decorations of the season. That the house looks pretty inside and out. I also love to ride around and look at all the holiday lights. I lose focus on the one who loves mer more than anyone else can. He is the Reason for the Season and I am refocusing, starting right now, on Jesus the Savior of the World.

Maerry Christmas and thank you for refocusing my Christmas.

Romans 15:13 It has been a hard year due to the loss of several family members, but we have also had so much peace and joy as the Lord has ministered to us through others and my son accepted the Lord and was baptized. So the God of all hope has blessed us abundantly with every good gift and more than we could ask for in Himself.

    Praising Him! Merry Christmas.

My pastor has just completed a 6-Sunday series on the Holy Spirit; so, my favorite would have to be the first one, Matthew 1:18.That very same power of the Holy Spirit that infilled Mary and impregnated her with our Savior is also the same Spirit that caused Jesus to overcome death and be resurrected from the grave. Likewise, it is also the same Spirit that as believers we now have living on the inside of us today to empower us to walk in boldness as His followers in this world when we yield to Him. What a mighty God we serve!

I am going through some painful and challenging health issues and everyday I need to remind myself that God is a God of hope, HE fills me with joy and I can fully trust Him during this journey that I am travelling. I am so gratedful to have the Holy Spirit guiding me each step of the way!

Merry CHRISTmas Tracie to you and your family 🙂

John 10:10 is my favorite. This is why He came, to give us life. Real life. Eternal life with Him. Abundant life! Praise God for giving His son, so that we could have the opportunity to truly live – no matter what we have or don’t, whether we are destitute of material things or swimming in abundance – we have life, truth and joy from God. That is truly living. Praise God from whom all blessings flow! Merry Christmas!

Instead it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” This verse speaks to me. Having God in my life and taking time to worship are more important than the material things in life.

1 Peter 3:3-4 speaks most to me; I had never really thought of myself as a pretty girl, but a lot of people tell me that my good heart shines through. What makes me beautiful is what is on the inside, that is true beauty. There might be a verse in the Bible where God calls us beautiful, but I can’t remember where it’s at.

  56. Jean McBride on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 10:55 am

What a beautiful way to remind us of the importance of the gifts that God has intended for us this Christmas season. I will choose to receive His love, hope, joy and peace as I celebrate His birth!

  58. Sheri on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 11:02 am

All of the verses spoke to me as I often find myself stressed out and discouraged this time of year. I chose “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13 (NIV) because I need to remember to trust the Lord and place my hope in Him. It is so easy to get caught up in the busyness and compare yourself and your family with others or with the Norman Rockwell or picture-perfect type Christmas where the decorations are all in place, the cards all sent, the gifts all purchased and wrapped, the tree trimmed, and everyone sitting before a warm fire reading the account of Jesus’ birth and singing Christmas carols, only to be disappointed by a reality that falls far short. I am sitting here, drinking a cup of cocoa, trying to quiet my heart and focus on the true gift of my Lord and the salvation He came to provide…………Thank you for this. I needed it, and I’m going to print off the COCOA devotional to put in our Scripture/”Things About God” box that my youngest daughter (age 8) made up last year for us to share on Christmas morning! :)………God bless!

Romans 15:13 speaks to my heart today. It’s a good reminder that God is my hope. I can be filled with His joy and His peace if I just trust in Him!!

My word of the year for 2013 is Hope so Romans 15:13 speaks to my heart because He has overflowed me with hope and filled me with His joy and peace as I’ve leaned on Him.

John 10:10. I am claiming the life abundantly over my family and friends. Have had some hard news lately but I believe God has the final word in LIFE. Thank you for the encouragement.

Romans 15:13 is one of my fave verses. I love how Paul wrote about being filled with joy and peace as we trust Him. That we will overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. It’s not us… it’s Him. We (I) just get in the way… Not my will…. His.
    Thanks Tracie- ♥

All of the scriptures really speak to my heart, however Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (NIV) really hits close to home, especially during this Christmas season. With everything that has happened this year from the furloughs to the purchase of my first home(Blessing from God), I’m still able to trust God through it all, no matter the circumstance or situation I encounter. With Christmas being so over commercialized, it’s so comforting to have the joy, peace and trust of God down on the inside. Good reminder not just at Christmas but throughout the year!

I like them all (excellent choices! 🙂 ) But I think choosing just one Romans 15:13, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (NIV), is it. It just warmed my heart when I read it. Especially the overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit part! 🙂 I long for that.

You have a very Merry CHRISTmas Eve and CHRISTmas! 🙂

    Blessings, Amada

For me it is this one – Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” because no matter WHAT HE is in control and I can trust Him completely. He has indeed provided all my family needs and gives us joy and peace to share with others. Merry CHRISTmas!

Over joyed not overwhelmed! This was exactly where I was this Christmas season. I was excited for another Christmas but quickly overwhelmed with activites, work, and busyness. I have been really trying the last few days to let it all go and prepare my heart for worship. The wisemen gave up so much to seek the Christ child. I need to be willing to do the same……give up some busyness to truly seek the Lord this Christmas! Thank you for your wise words and the Cocoa devotion!

The verse from 1 Peter is such an incredible reminder to me. Like I think alot of people, I tend to get preoccupied with how I look, what I’m wearing, what my crazy hair is doing……this verse is such a great way for me to remember all the “stuff” doesn’t matter. It’s Christ in my heart, in my life, that DOES matter.

Have a blessed Christmas and New Year!

1Peter 3:3-4 spoke to me as I read this same verse in my morning devotions. It really is all about what is on the inside and portraying that gentle & quiet spirit that is so precious to God. Have a Blessed & Merry Christmas!! Loved your devotion that I am sharing with my sisters & daughter!!

  72. Donna on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at 12:20 pm

Wow, all these verses were so good. After Christmas Eve Service tonight and we gather around our Christmas tree, I am going to have us talk about each of these verses. It was hard to choose just one. I would select Romans 15:13 first as I want to overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit and John 10:10 second as I want to have life in Jesus to the fullest and shine His light so others will see Him in me.

I wasn’t focused on Him this morning and found myself a little crabby. I stopped and realized who this season was about and it wasn’t about how perfect I wanted things that weren’t…It wasn’t about the gift giving that I wanted perfect, and it wasn’t. When I paused and prayed and asked God to direct my thoughts on the greatest gift of all, the only thing that matters, my mood changed, and I was able to swallow my pride and apologize to my husband and son for being not to nice to them and for not showing Christ to them. We give GRACE to each other and move forward.

Thank you for the reminder to keep our focus on what really is important. And since I am not a tea or coffee drinker, mainly milk and water (My guys say I’m very boring!), I love hot chocolate in the winter and that’s what I will have tonight when we sit at the tree and when we watch a Christmas movie.

Merry Christmas, Tracie, to you and your family.

1 Peter 3:3-4 “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.”
I feel the Lord speaking to me about being more aware of the gentle works he is doing inside me, the changes that are coming from deep within to outward peace and love. That he wants these changes to come through as His love is poured into me. Praise the Lord for all his good work in us and love that he gives us. Let the peace and joy of his birth be within us this season and through the year.

The one the speaks to me is the 1Peter 3:3-4. I have been focusing too much on the outer and too little on the inside. Sometimes the outer is easier to change. The inside is harder and you can’t really see or measure.
Merry Christmas and have a blessed and joyful new year.

I just wanted to thank you for the wonderful devotion this morning. I too, love hot cocoa, and I printed out the verses to pack away with my Christmas decorations so that I will remember it in the years to come. I don’t need the giveaway (so if by some rare chance I get selected, please feel free to brighten someone else’s life with the gift), but I especially loved your second C verse (Romans 15:13), as this year more then previous, the Lord keeps revealing those in my life who are hurting this Christmas- it’s such a beautiful reminder that He is indeed the God of hope, and to pray for His peace, comfort, love and joy in the lives of those around us who might find it a bit harder to rejoice during this time of year.

    Merry Christmas, Tracie,
Romans 15:13 would be the verse I would choose today. My focus needs to be on Christ and my hope of salvation in Him, for He came to be our Savior and to give us joy and peace. How challenging it is sometimes to feel peaceful in the midst of holiday stress and the struggles in life. Only Jesus can give us the peace, hope, and joy through His Spirit that we need. Thank you for sharing all of the verses and taking time out of your busy life to bless others. Hope you are filled with joy, peace, and hope this Christmas season. By the way, I love hot chocolate, too!

John 10:10 b……I sat and pondered what this verse means to me, and all thru my life things have been stolen or lost of family thru accidents or murder. It has been so hard at time to just breathe. God knew that we would have things in our life stolen, killed and destroyed But Jesus came so we could have life and have it more abundantly. It can be quiet lonely for alot of people Jesus gives us all life, love and hope. I thank Him and praise Him.

Romans15:13: We have been in the process of completing ou adoption paperwork fo over a year and a half, yes, I said paperwork. This means we’re not even on a “list” yet. Random occurrences keep delaying our process: psychologist quit, notary signed with incorrect expiration date, and I could go on and on. At one point, we seriously questioned quitting the process. We were no longer confident adoption is part of God’s plan for our family;however, after increased prayers, God whispered to our hearts a message of perseverance after a sermon about Abraham, a hero of the faith. A hero who waited and trusted—a lot longer than a year and a half. Yesterday we found ou we need to redo some of our paperwork due to the drawn out timing of our dossier—-dates need to be more current. While, part of me longs to cry tears of frustration, another part of me clings to the “peace” that comes from trusting God and his perfect timing.

Matthew 2:10-11 spoke the most to me! In these verses we see the Wisememen coming to Christ, worshipping Him, and presenting their gifts! This is a wonderful reminder to me of the greatest gift I received- my salvation and the gift of eternal life with Him in heaven! It started with the gift of God’s son, Jesus coming to the world as a tiny baby in a manger, who ultimately lived His life telling the world about His Father’s love for us! He was then crucified on a cross, taking my place for my sins! He died but three days later arose from the grave and now waits for me in heaven at God’s right hand! He waits for us all! “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him would not perish but have everlasting life!” Hallelujah! This is what Christmas is ultimately all about! Merry Christmas!

Matthew 2:10-11 “When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.” (NIV)

I find this passage absolutely amazing. These kings, these extremely important men, didn’t question, they didn’t doubt, they didn’t lose any time wondering. They were overjoyed when they saw the star and immediately acted on it. To the doubter, or the analytical one, they might have watched and wondered. But these men *acted*. They acted on something that couldn’t be explained and made no sense and, as a result, they were blessed. God is waiting for me to trust. He is waiting for me to act. It is His good pleasure to bless me, if only I would trust so deeply that I would act without question.

Lord, this Christmas and beyond, overcome my lack of trust and my inactivity. Help me to step wholly out of the boat and live the amazing life You intend for me!

Romans 15:13 states the most important need of the heart. The God of Hope is my anchor when I face the storms in life. He brings joy and peace as I trust in Him to strengthen and fortify my inner being. He gives hope by the power of the Holy Spirit to overflow in my daily life. What a wonderful God to bring such a living hope to sustain my spirit. With such a hope we can live a life reflecting the joy of abiding in the Lord to others.

First of all, I really enjoyed your devotion on ‘cocoa’. It is so creative and has such great reminders.
As to the verses, this one is a ‘toughie’. Romans 15:13 is my all time favorite, and 1 Peter 3:3-4 is such an important reminder as to what we should nurture and develop in our daily lives- what is more important than just looks. I once heard that we should spend just as much time on our spiritual ‘look’ as we do on our physical one. I guess it would be idea of we spent even more time on our spiritual than on the the way we look physically.
But but I will have to stick to my all time fav of Rom.15:13 as my fav verse, because I think having joy and peace (and hope) as a gift from God is the most precious and important gift we can have and/or desire for the well-being of our daily lives.
    Merry Christmas to you, Tracie!

What I learned today from this lesson is this, God loves us so much that He is willing to sacrifice His son for our lives. No parent, brother, sister, mother, or father I know would send any of their children into ‘battle’ to die for me, no matter how much they loved or appreciated me. God did, though. I finally get why a relationship with God, and Jesus, is so important. I FINALLY get it!!!!!

It’s early morning here and I just sat down to read your blog from yesterday. Your words ” calming our hearts” and ” busyness of Christmas” got my attention. I should have read this yesterday but here I am after already having been up for 1 1/2 hours ” preparing” . God was tugging at my heart this morning to spend time with Him. The Romans 15:13 verse is what I want and need for now and for the new year to come. I want to reflect God’s joy and peace in my life so maybe others can see it and want it also. I want to be filled with the Spirit daily and overflow into others lives – in the everyday at home, at work, in my bible study group, at the grocery store, driving in traffic…

My gift to myself and my family was less social networking because I had become so wrapped up in seeing what everyone else had,or what they were doing. My self worth from comparing lives day in and day out really took a beating. Then I came across the saying “Comparison is the thief of joy” and decided I on the Word. needed to focus my time and effort on the Word. When I saw your post about the verse on inner beauty it just confirmed the goal I am working towards in my life. I am beginning to see self worth is what’s on the inside that counts.

This is one of my favorite encouragement verses. He’s the God of all hope, He gives us joy and peace, and as the KJV adds, “in believing”. We end up overflowing in hope…and that hope comes by the power of the Holy Spirit.

First of all, I love all these verses for one reason or another, but the one that speaks the most to me is John 10:10. If Jesus had not come to give us a full life, where would we be. Some people still haven’t found the love of Jesus that can give us this full life. We try to tell people about this love, but they can’t open their hearts and lives to accept this love that is never failing. God gave Jesus to our world so we can all have this love and full life, but we can’t make people accept Him. I don’t know where I would be without the love of Jesus. We have made mistakes, but it never fails, Jesus is still there ready to hold us when we come back to Him. I have learned throughout my life that I could never find this love anywhere else, so there is no reason to look. Loving Jesus gives me a FULL LIFE.

John 10:10 speaks of the great promise of Christ – that through Him, we are filled to overflowing with all those things which are of Him – hope, love, compassion, justice, and righteousness. Our lives are full – not necessarily long or full of “stuff”, most of which is rather like tinsel, sparkly but of little substance, but full of Him. And when we’re filled with Him, we don’t need anything else, nor is there really room for all the other ‘stuff.’ Thank you, God, for this word of life.

1 Peter spoke to me today. A gentle and quiet spirit is of great worth. Makes me think of my grandmother, who passed away last August. How I ponder if I am like her in that way. I guess that is one way we are Christ-like.

Hey there! I understand this is sort of off-topic however I had to ask.
Does operating a well-established website like yours
require a massive amount work? I’m brand new to writing a blog however I
do write in my journal every day. I’d like
to start a blog so I can easily share my personal experience and feelings online.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions or tips
for brand new aspiring blog owners. Thankyou!
