Is Clutter Making You Stressed?

The winner of Wednesday’s drawing for a signed copy of Stressed-Less Living and my one hour message on CD is Crystal Scott!  If this is you, please email your mailing address to me at traciewmiles@carolina.rr.com.

For the past couple months, I have been spring cleaning – even though it’s obviously not spring yet. I just felt compelled to get rid of some clutter – in my closets, my drawers, my garage and even my laundry room. After weeks of purging stuff that we didn’t need or want, I finally put the last of the black plastic bags in the car to take to Goodwill, and plopped on the couch in exhaustion.

But it was a good kind of exhaustion. The type of exhaustion that left me feeling physically tired, but emotionally uplifted. I knew that every inch of my house was neat, tidy and organized.  I know that won’t last forever, but I will enjoy it while it does.

Then my friend and ministry partner Glynnis Whitwer reminded me of her blog challenge, and the importance of not only cleaning out physical clutter from our homes, but mental clutter from our minds. As I began reading through her daily challenges, I realized that I had a lot of unnecessary clutter in my mind – and I needed to do some spring cleaning there too.

Glynnis is doing a great 15 day challenge on her blog to help you not only de-clutter your home or office, but de-clutter your heart and mind as well.  If clutter in any regard is making you feel like life is out of control, then Glynnis’s challenge could be the answer you’ve been looking for! Click here to hop over to her blog to get signed up. She is currently on Day 5, but you can read all prior challenges on her prior posts.

The main purpose of being clutter free is not just to feel a sense of accomplishment or see the neatness around you, but to be freed up to do whatever it is God is calling you to do. Glynnis once stated that “Clutter in our minds, spirits, time and resources drains us.  It saps our creativity.  It discourages us before we get started.  We are free from clutter to obey.”

Has any form of clutter had your head spinning lately?  Have you been hesitant to follow God’s call on your life because there is too much clutter, either around you, or in your heart? If you are ready for a life change, today could be the day you start getting truly organized inside and out.
