one sin worse than another

But is one sin worse than another? Is the sins of rape and adultery considered equal in Gods eyes to the sins of gossip and impatience? Obviously the sins are at opposite ends of spectrum in severity, so to think that a sin is a sin is a sin is kind of upsetting! However, the problem is that we confuse current consequences with eternal consequences. Small lies may not cause any earthly problems, but adultery may result in the end of a marriage. So the sins may be equal in Gods eyes, and we will all face judgement one day, but the suffering as a result of those sins varies greatly here on earth.
Even though I may not agree with it or like it, the truth is, that God has a different attitude about sin than we do. Isaiah 59 teaches that any sin separates from God. And the Bible explains in more than one passage that our salvation is secure if we truly accept Christ, despite the severity of our sin. Does that seem fair? Not to me! Why should the exceptionally bad sinner receive the same grace as someone who tries to live a life focused on Christ?
Consider this verse from James 2:10 “For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.”
