When It’s Hard To Trust God

Sometimes life just isn’t fair.

Sometimes people are hard hearted and mean.

Sometimes others don’t get what they deserve for their wrong doings.

Sometimes we don’t seem to get what we deserve for our ‘right-doings’.

Sometimes the troubles of life, and listening to all the bad news in the media, can make even the most faithful of believer begin to doubt where God is in the midst of the troubles of this broken world.

Honestly, sometimes it becomes hard to trust God.

My Proverbs 31 devotion today addresses some of these frustrations and how easy it is to feel upset with God when circumstances in our world, and in our personal circumstances, seem to keep growing worse instead of better.

We wonder why God isn’t intervening to bring the “wicked” to justice, why He isn’t “fixing” our problems, why the voices of those who love Him get drowned out by non-believers, and why He seems to be getting pushed farther and farther to the back burner of today’s society.

I think we have all fallen prey at times to the whispers of the enemy who wants us to not only begin doubting God and His ways, but to begin questioning if God is really Someone we can put our trust in.  Whispers with the  sole intention of causing us to stumble and hopefully turn our backs on God, especially when it appears He has turned His back on us.

If we listen to these whispers long enough, we may eventually find ourselves in a crisis of faith. That’s why it’s so crucial to stay focused on the truth that although sometimes life is hard, in all times God is still in control – and that He is always trustworthy.

The best way to keep our faith strong in the midst of hard times is to stay grounded in God’s Word. When our hearts are full of scripture, our faith will drown out the whispers full of doubt, and stay focused on holy whispers of truth and strength.

As promised in today’s devotion, I have created a free printable of comforting verses to tuck into our hearts and help us stay grounded in our faith when the world seems to be going crazy all around us.  To download the printable, CLICK HERE to visit my Free Resources page.

I would so love to fill up the comment section with God’s promises to encourage all readers!  So if you have a favorite scripture that brings you comfort and serves as a reminder of God’s sovereignty when living in this broken world starts taking a toll on your heart, leave it in a comment!  (email subscribers: please click here to leave your comment/favorite verse)

This helps get me through some rough days when I find myself worrying about the “what if’s”. My Dad used to tell me “don’t worry about something you have no control over”. This section of scripture helps to remind of just that.

Matthew 6:34. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

I found your devotional today so very helpful and I thought I would put my favourite verse of encouragement here for others to enjoy as well.

In Romans 12:2 we read, “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” All we have to do is draw close to the word and walk by the precepts that we find there.

Cast all your cares upon me for I careth for you. 1Peter 5:7

I have 2 verses that always bring me comfort.

Isaiah 41:10 ~ “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” We are never, ever alone. God is always with us. He is always present. And he is always aware. We are named, known and loved. All we need to do is fix our eyes on Him and He will see us through. God is faithful.

Romans 8:28 ~ “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” God will work everything out. We need not get burdened or destroyed by sin in this world. God has a Purpose and a Plan for each one of us. And His Will always prevails.

Even a bad day can get at least a little brighter with a simple smile. This verse tends to make me smile as I think about what it says.

“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” – Zephaniah 3:17

I found your devotional today to be just what I needed, and hope that this verse about God’s sovereignty will be an encouragement to others also.
2 Timothy 1:7: For god has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

    Psalm18:32
“It is God who arms me with strength
    and makes my way perfect!”

How can I NOT trust Him when He says He is giving me strength and making my way perfect!! Even when it doesn’t LOOK perfect, I will trust Him!! 🙂

    John 14:27

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

I’m a little late to the party 🙂 but my fave verse is Micah 6:8. It is my daily reminder that if we put God first, and love others, that we will be the best reflection of Him that we can be. It is something I strive to work on every day.

    ~Deuteronomy 31:8
It is the LORD who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”

    Isaiah 26: 3-4
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the Lord forever, for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength.
