When It’s Hard to Trust God

When the bills need to get paid and the checking account is waning … when a sick loved one continues to worsen instead of improve … when a problem with a coworker or supervisor seems it will never get better … when you’re mourning a loss … when a marriage falls apart … when a child is suffering … when the country we live in seems divided … when jobs are lost … when a virus pandemic appears to be ramping back up just when you thought life might get back to normal …

Life is stressful. Always has been and always has be. When we can’t see any hope in the distance or any possible resolution or end to our biggest problems, it’s easy to feel God might be ignoring our needs or not answering our prayers because they are simply too big for Him to handle. Staring fear and uncertainty in the face is the most common reason we lose trust in God’s ability to provide for our needs, whether physical, emotional, mental or spiritual.

Yet, He is capable. And oh, what peace we can have in the midst of chaos if only we remember that truth.

The downfall of not trusting God is not only that it affects our heart and maybe even keeps us up at night, but our physical bodies suffer as well. We weren’t created to live with the poison of toxic stress coursing through our veins.

Chronic stress is no joke. It is a silent killer. But there is a cure.

In my Proverbs 31 devotion today, If the Future Feels Stressful, Trust Your Provider,  I shared about how my life was transformed when I discovered the peace available to me if only I would let down my guard and trust God to be my provider, instead of anyone or anything else. If you need a pep talk today, hop over and read it.

But I also want to invite you to sign up for my brand new free 5 Day Stress Detox! This series offers 5 days of thought-provoking free mini-devotionals to help you begin to destress your life, focus on finding God’s perspective of your stressors, and learn how to start implementing practical steps which will allow you to begin living with more peace in your heart and mind, even in less than peaceful circumstances.
