Today I want to share an excerpt from page 63, just as food for thought. Please read it below:
“It pains me to think of the number of times that I needed the healing of God’s powerful hands, but instead, I sought out attention from doctors and tried to rid myself of issues through self diagnoses, medications and sleep. What a shame that when we find ourselves in the most desperate of situations, we are too stubborn to ask God for healing until we get to that “end-of-our-rope” stage. Granted, there are times when we need to seek out medical advice, but there are also times when we need to seek out holy intervention instead.
God is often referred to as “The Great Physician”, but typically when people use this term, they are praying for physical healing for a loved one or for themselves. Although praying for physical healing is important and necessary, we already know that Jesus walked the earth to provide something even more important than physical healing. He came bringing spiritual healing that not only saves the soul, but can minimize stress in our hearts.”
I wrote that quote a few years ago obviously, but it still rings so true for me today. More often than I’d like to confess, I find myself all worked up into a tizzy about a big problem, or even a little problem, and have to remind myself that stressing out over the problem isn’t going to help the situation at all. Living less stressed is certainly an ongoing effort!
Walking in faith and living a life of less stress takes a renewed commitment every day. We all handle stress differently – as for me, I typically internalize things, and usually end up with an upset stomach. Then when the straw falls that finally breaks the camel’s back – whoa nelly. Watch out. Not pretty. But over the years I have learned that about myself, and know God’s mercies are renewed for me every day.
Living a life full of peace in the midst of stressful days is not easy, but with enough practice and prayer, it can be done.
