What If You Only Had One Day Left to Live?

In today’s Proverbs 31 Devotion, What If Tomorrow Never Comes, I shared about an experience on an airplane that made me wonder if that day in the air was going to be my last day alive. It was scary to say the least, but it opened up my mind to think about something we rarely think about …. what if I had no tomorrow?

You can read the entire devotion here, but I want to pose the same question for you to ponder. What if today was your last day? Would you have regrets? Would you wish you had let yourself be happier, despite your circumstances?

We are all assured that one day our lives here will end, and we will be in heaven with Jesus – which is a beautiful thought. But John 10:10 reminds us that although the devil wants to steal, kill and destroy – especially our peace, joy and happiness – Jesus came so we could live an abundant life, while we still have life.

But oh how often we forget to live it abundantly! How frequently do we inadvertently forget that each day, and each breath we take, is a gift?  How many times do we allow our problems and difficult circumstances to steal our joy and rob us of peace? How frequently do we let the busyness of life keep us from spending time with the people who matter most?  Why do we give someone else permission to hold our happiness hostage?  Why are we guilty of not living life to the fullest, because we allow adversity or habits of negative thinking impact our joy?

We all do these things, because we’re only human. And this is real life, and real life is sometimes really hard. But we don’t have to keep doing them and we don’t have to live without joy.

Jesus has the power to help us overcome these tendencies and learn to love the lives we are given to live, no matter what they involve, and live them abundantly. He wants us to make the most of each day and treasure it for the gift that it is – because we all only get one life to live, and this is it.

That is what I’ve learned most over the last few years, and is the reason behind why I wrote my newest book Love Life Again: Finding Joy When Life is Hard.

If this is your heart’s desire too, to love your life – regardless of problems and disappointments – I want to personally invite you, all of my precious blog readers and subscribers, to join myself and the Proverbs 31 Ministries Online Bible Study team in the online study of Love Life Again.

The study begins on September 4th and is free to everyone. You’ll get to be a part of some fun Facebook live broadcasts we’ll be doing in the coming weeks (including one this morning at 8:30am ET on the Proverbs 31 OBS page!), have an opportunity to be involved in a live teaching series, watch videos of myself and our OBS team talking about this topic, participate in our #thankfultakeover initiative, and so much more. It’s going to so fun, but more importantly and hopefully life changing for many.

Most of all, especially if you’re struggling for some reason today, my prayer is that God will open your heart to see that you too can love your life, no matter what it looks like or how many adversities have broken your heart. He is good and good to us – but we have to give Him a chance and put in the effort to change before anything can change.

So will you join me in the Online Bible Study? I hope so!

CLICK HERE to sign up for the free P31 OBS six week bible study which you can do on your time, at your convenience, and in the privacy of your own home (or you can gather a small group and go through together). Hello Susanna! I don’t know you, but I love you because you are a fellow child of God! Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour? He will carry you. All you have to do is ask. I prayed for you.

Susanna – I’m so sorry for all the burdens you’re carrying and I can’t imagine how hard life must feel right now. I hope you will join us in the online bible study so you can be surrounded by women who will support you and encourage you in your faith and all that you’re going through. I have prayed for you and your family and will continue to ask God to bring peace and joy into your circumstances and into your heart. Trust that He sees and loves you and you are not forgotten.

      Hello Susanna,
I understand I’ve had a pretty lousy life as well, it’s so hard to keep going. I wonder every day if it’s ever going to get better and less lonely. You keep yourself strong and find some of your own kind of joy.
I will pray for you and your family.
      Cynthia
