If you are visiting my blog from today’s Proverbs 31 devotion, then welcome! I am so excited you have decided to join me in this summer survival series, especially since summer usually brings on a whole new level of stress for all of us!
Unlike some, I LOVE summer. In fact, I usually begin counting down the days to summer immediately after taking down my Christmas decorations. Once the holidays are over, summer never seems to come quickly enough for this Carolina gir..
If I could live at the beach, maybe even actually ON the beach, I probably would. The sound of the waves, the fragrant salty air and the warmth of sun just soothe my soul. And it’s a great place to talk to God.
I love sweet watermelon, laying out in the sun, going crabbing at the beach and cooking ’em up later in a big pot of water with Old Bay Seasoning. I adore the smell of outdoor BBQ’s, coconut sunscreen and the aroma of my blooming gardenia bushes. And I especially love that the kids are out of school – which means no early mornings, no car rider lines, no homework, no demanding schedules and no school drama.
It all seems so sweet and serene in my mind in the months leading up to summer … until spring is a mere memory, summer roars in and the novelty of 90 degree days quickly wears off. The kids are bored and on each other’s nerves (and mine), the humidity makes it hard to breathe, and the mosquitoes far outnumber the fireflies. It’s too hot to relax at the pool or the beach, the car needs more Freon, the babysitter quits, and vacation makes us so tired that we need another vacation – except now we can’t afford it. Sound familiar?!
There are definitely pros and cons to any season of the year, but even though summer has it’s challenges, there are steps we can take to ensure that we enjoy the summer months, not endure them.
Whether you are a career woman, a working mom, a stay at home mom, single, married, have toddlers, teens, or grandbabies -summertime is not always as carefree as we imagined. So over the next seven weeks, I’ll be offering some summer survival stress tips in the hopes of helping your summer feel a little less stressed and hopefully more calm and relaxing.
